Adapted from a recipe by renowned artist Barbara Ladin Fisher
Ingredients:
Crust: 2 cups flour 3 tablespoons dried onion flakes 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar 1 egg 1/2 cup margarine or oil 2-4 tablespoons water
Filling: 2 cups onions, minced 2-3 pounds ground beef 1 /2 pounds chopped mushrooms 1/4 cup dry red wine 2 slices parve white bread, crumbled 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 3/4 cup minced parsley 1 beaten egg
Directions:
Crust:: Blend dry ingredients in food processor. With machine running, add egg, water, and oil. Form dough into a ball, and wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Filling: Brown meat. Sautee onions until brown. Combine, all filling ingredients. Place mixture in an ovenproof deep 12-Inch pie dish or a large casserole dish.
Roll dough large enough to cover meat mixture. Pinch around sides. Brush with beaten egg. Prick crust with fork. Bake in preheaded 400 degree oven about 30-40 minutes until crust is golden.
